Kansas State's defense turned in a second straight sterling effort Saturday as the Wildcats defeated UTSA 30-3 in San Antonio.

The Wildcats have yet to allow a touchdown this season.

The Roadrunners (0-2) of Conference USA, who had 525 yards of total offense in a 42-32 loss last week at No. 22 Arizona, managed only 229 Saturday. UTSA quarterback Blake Bogenschutz was 20 of 33 for 156 yards after throwing for 332 yards on 25 of 43 against Arizona.

Joe Hubener was 12-of-23 for 243 yards for K-State (2-0), including five completions of at least 25 yards. He also rushed 17 times for 58 yards and a touchdown.

Hubener, a redshirt junior, was making his first start at quarterback since his sophomore year of high school when he started a junior-varsity game. He played wide receiver his junior and senior years in high school and began as a walk-on at K-State.

He had appeared in eight games in his first two years. He was slated to back up Jesse Ertz heading into this season, but Ertz suffered a leg injury on the first play of the first game, and left after one more play. He is likely out for the season.

K-State led 7-3 at halftime on a 1-yard run by Hubener. The Wildcats now have won 49 straight games when leading at halftime, the longest current streak in the nation.

Kansas State then outscored the Roadrunners 23-0 in the second half.

The Wildcats' average starting field position in the first half was at their own 11. They started the second half on their own 47 after a 45-yard kickoff return by Morgan Burns, and the rout was on.
